Footlik Wins Illinois Federation of Teachers’ Endorsement

Nod based on candidate interviews, questionnaires

Springfield – On the heels of an endorsement from one of its largest local affiliates, the Illinois Federation of Teachers has endorsed the candidacy of Jay Footlik. Footlik is running for the Democratic nomination in Illinois’ 10th congressional district.

The IFT represents 90,000 teachers, school support staff, higher education faculty and staff and public employees across the state. Footlik has also been endorsed by the Lake County Federation of Teachers, Local 504, an IFT affiliate with more than 5,000 members. More than 3,000 members from various IFT local unions live in the 10th congressional district.

“We evaluate candidates based on their position on the issues and candidate interviews with regional IFT political action committees,” said IFT Director of Political Activities Steve Preckwinkle. “The IFT Executive Board believes Jay Footlik has the experience and the dedication to really change things in Washington. Jay Footlik has earned our endorsement, and we are proud to stand with him.”

“I am a product of Illinois’ public schools, and the guidance and support I received made a tremendous difference in my life,” Footlik said. “Our teachers and education workers deserve a Representative in Congress willing to stand up for them. I am proud to have earned the support of the statewide Illinois Federation of Teachers, and proud to stand with them as we move forward.”

The IFT has a history of standing up for electable candidates before the rest of the political establishment recognizes their viability. In 2003, the IFT supported Barack Obama in the race for the Democratic nomination for Senate.
